From white sand beaches and a sea filled with corals and many sorts of beautiful fishes and jungle, in south and east Sri Lanka to waterfalls and high mountains in the upcountry, to dry and warm climate in North of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has a lot of animals like elephants, leopards, bears, many sorts of birds, snakes and lizards.
In Sri Lanka lives very much people, almost 20 million. Most people in Sri Lanka are Sinhalese, but also Tamil and Muslims live in Sri Lanka. 70% of the population in Sri Lanka is Buddhist,15 % of the population is Hindu, 9% of the population is Muslims and 6% of the populations is Christians, of them are 5% Catholics, and the other 1% equivalent protestants (the Christian in Sri Lanka is converted Sinhalese and Tamils).
The people in Sri Lanka have gone through many hard times. In 26 years have it been war between the government and LTTE, who want to have an own part of Sri Lanka. The situation in the war and the country has under this years been going much up and down. Most of the people in Sri Lanka are very pour and ther not afford to buy enough food for their families.
The 26 December 2004 hitted the Tsunami Sri Lanka very hard. Over 30000 people died, and 1 million people lost their homes. Many organizations came to Sri Lanka to help to build up the society again; to build up houses to families that lost there homes, and to build up orphanages. But even that many organizations helped can you still; many years later see the effects of the Tsunami. And many people do still not have good homes.
Many organizations are working in Sri Lanka. But it is very little Christian organization working here. Many of the Christians in Sri Lanka have a hard time; both believers and churches are much pour. The Christian people are also a minority in the country. Some of the Christians, churches and leaders of churches have to go through many hard situations. There are not many organizations in Sri Lanka that give help to Christians. Non Christian organizations do not help to Christians.
For tourist people Sri Lanka is a really nice country to spend some weeks in. Tourism is also the third biggest income in Sri Lanka, after garment and tea which is the main income.
Even if the Sri Lankan people have gone through many hard times, as war and the Tsunami, the people in Sri Lanka have a very positive life attitude. We believe that the only solution on the problem in Sri Lanka is Jesus.
